Labrador Nature Reserve (Chinese: 拉柏多自然保护区), also locally known as Labrador Park (拉柏多公园), is located in the southern part of the main island of Singapore. It contains the only rocky sea-cliff on the mainland that is accessible to the public. Comprising the Syonan Chureito and the British Memorial Cross, the Bukit Batok Memorial was constructed during the Japanese Occupation to commemorate the war dead of the Japanese and the Allies who took up arms during World War II. Since Bukit Batok overlooked Bukit Timah, where the brunt of the battle occurred, the area was chosen for the Bukit Batok Memorial to be built on. Assembled by 500 allied prisoners-of-war (PoWs), the Syonan Chureito incorporates a 40-foot wooden pylon crowned in a brass cone, and a small tiled hut which is encircled by a wooden fence. read more »

Officially opened in 2002, Reflections at Bukit Chandu is a World War II Interpretative Centre created in commemoration of the sacrifice of the men of the 1st and 2nd battalion of the Malay Regiment. These men fought gallantly in their defence of the western sector of Singapore in 1942, with Bukit Chandu being a strategically important site for the Allies. The building was originally used to store military and food supplies back then in the Second World War, and is now more than 100 years old. read more »

It resulted from an increase in demand for water in the mid-19th century, which grew beyond the capacity of ox-drawn water carts.
