Kek Lok Si Temple is a beautiful Buddhist temple that stands majestically on a hill in Air Itam in Penang, the largest and best known temple on the island. A project inspired by the chief monk of the Goddess of Mercy Temple at Pitt Street, it was also supported by the Manchu Emperor Guangxu, who bestowed a tablet and gift of 70,000 volumes of the Imperial Edition of the Buddhist Sutras. Kek Lok Si Temple comprises several prayer halls, pagodas, bell towers and more, but the two structures that stand out are the 7-storey pagoda and the huge bronze statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin. read more »

The tallest mountain in Southeast Asia, Mount Kinabalu stands at a height of 4095m, in the Kinabalu National Park in the province of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo. One of the easiest peaks in the world to conquer, climbers will need just two days to ascend and descend, and prior experience in mountain climbing is not required. The 8 km climb generally begins at the Timpohon Gate, an overnight stay at one of the guest houses at Laban Rata, before reaching the summit early next morning for the sunrise and returning to Laban Rata for breakfast before descending. read more »

Sandakan War Memorial Park is located on the original Prisoners of War campsite during WWII, although its size is only a fraction of the original camp. It commemorates the tragedy that struck Sandakan during the war, where approximately 2400 Australian and British prisoners of war died here. The park has a commemorative pavilion that houses various educational materials, including a scale model of the original POW camp. read more »

Lying 40km north of Sandakan, the Turtle Island Park comprises Selingan, Bakungan, Kecil and Guilisan Islands. The park derives its name from being a safe haven for the endangered green and hawksbill turtles that land here. Surrounded by blue-green waters and coral reefs, it is one of Sabah's top diving spots, offering magnificent displays of marine life ranging from tiny ribbon eels to huge groupers.
