In the past, there were only nine families in Jiufen. All the goods were transported using ships as there were no roads constructed on land. With this, there was a habit that was cultivated that only nine pieces of the same object would be purchased at any one time for reservation. read more »

Jiufen Mazu Worship Temple is the place where devotees welcome Mazu on the day of the lunar calendar that corresponds to 1st of April. It is said that there was once a plague in the area and no doctor was able to help. Then Mazu made her celestial presence and cast the plague away. read more »

Yehliu Scenic Area is recognised for its wide selection of distinctive rock formations that are formed over the decades of continuous sea erosion. The famous ones would include that of the Queen's Head, the Fairy's Show and the Candle Rock etc. Unique rock formations can only be found in Yehliu Scenic Area as no other place would have similar rock formations by the respective processes of hydraulic action, attrition, abrasion and solution in the process of sea erosion. read more »

Located on Jao Ho Street in Taipei 600 meters in length, the Raohe Street used to be a central business district due to its favourable location and highly accessible transportation. Over the years, however, with the improvements in transportation means, Raohe Street has become a secondary road and business therefore went downhill. In response to this, the government set up Raohe Street Night Market in 1987 and it is now ranked the second most popular tourist night market in Taipei. read more »

Yilan County is well-known for its numerous natural hot springs due to the area’s geographic nature. Amongst these are the historic “Jiaoxi Hot Spring”, which is known as “The Hot Spring among Hot Springs” and “Tangwei Hot Spring” which has been famous since Qing Dynasty and ranked on the “Eight Scenes of Lanyang Area”. The Jiaoxi Hot Spring originates from the foot of a hill behind Fuchung Temple at Deyang Village and runs through railroads and highways, before gathering into a brook and used by the locals as natural baths in ancient times. read more »
