Wakayama has a warm climate and abundant nature, and produces more than anywhere else in Japan. It is a city that is blessed with the bounty of nature brimming with greenery and a temperate climate brought by the Kuroshio current.

Wakayama Prefecture is also one of Japan's premiere hot springs areas. Many hot springs like Rengejo-in and Shojoshin-in are located near mountains, rivers, and the ocean, and are visited by many tourists. In addition, the prefecture's best known tourist attraction is Mount Koya (Koyasan), the headquarters of Shingon Buddhism and the best place to experience an overnight stay at a temple.
