Miyagi Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan with its capital, Sendai, which Sendai was the castle town of the daimyo Date Masamune. The remains of Sendai Castle, being one of the main attractions in Miyagi, stand on a hill above the city. If you are travelling to Miyagi in August, you must participate in Sendai Tanabata Festival which occurs in the entire city of Sendai as well as the Miyagi Prefecture. During the Sendai Tanabata Festival, people put up gorgeous decorations made with bamboo and Japanese paper in the arcades in front of Sendai Station; therefore don’t be surprise with the colourful decorations all around the city!

Constructed in 1600 by the feudal lord, Date Masamune, he located the fortifications on Mount Aoba which is 100m above the town, due to his worries for the castle's defense. Aoba Castle was subjected to several historical events in the past 4 centuries and all that is left of the castle would be the remaining of the external stone walls and a guard tower. In the present day, there will be a museum where you can go to, which commemorates the Aoba Castle's history. read more »

At a height of 174m and 30 stories, the Sumitomo-Seimei Sendai-chuo (SS30) Building is a landmark of Sendai. It houses Sendai International Hotel and Central Sports Gym. It has a free-viewing platform on the top of the floor that offers panoramic views of Sendai's cityscape. read more »

Opened in 1965, Yagiyama Zoological Park is home to 550 animals of 145 species. The zoological park located at the top of Mt.Yagiyama, quite close to the city center of Sendai. read more »

The Sendai Tanabata Festival is held on August 6th to 8th in accordance with the lunar calendar that was used before the Meiji Restoration. It occurs in the entire city of Sendai as well as the Miyagi Prefecture, but mainly Chuo Dori, Higashi Ichibancho Dori and around Shimin Hiroba. The Osaki Hachiman Shrine was built in 1607 to protect the Sendai Clan and commemorate Usa Hachiman, the guardian deity of warriors. It is considered as the oldest existing Gongen-style architecture, black lacquered with luxurious gold foils, Kofun colours and decorative metal fittings, and is designated as a national treasure. The Osaki Hachiman Shrine is also the site where the approximately 300-year old Matsutaki festival is held, where people burn new years decorations for good health and safety for the year. read more »
