Being one of Taiwan's Tier-One heritages since 1982, the Chihkan Tower was established by the Dutch in 1653, during their period of colonization in Taiwan. It was initially named as Fort Provintia which means 'eternity' in Dutch. It was later belonged to Koxinga when he recovered Taiwan and hence renamed it to be Chihkan Tower (Chihkanlou) in 1945. read more »

Anping Fort used to be called Fort Zeelandia when it was first built by the Dutch over the span of ten years from 1624 to 1634. It was built for the Dutch to anchor their base at a strategic location with ease of access to shipments of food and reinforcements from Batavia. However, the Dutch surrendered in 1662 when they were overwhelmed by General Koxinga and his men with no reinforcements coming Batavia. read more »

Located in Kaohsiung County in the south, the Taiwan Sugar Museum (台灣糖業博物館) pays homage to sugar, once an important foreign exchange earner. Its history dates back to the Japanese Occupation when it operated as a sugar refinery, before becoming disused and then eventually restored to its current state. It is now well decorated and spacious, with a main highlight being the presence of several outdoor train cars and locomotive displays beside the main gate. read more »

A perfect place for lighthouse lovers, where there is one painted in white that is supremely unique due to the fact that it is the first armed lighthouse in the world. Situated between the Pacific Ocean and the Taiwan Strait, the Eluanbi Lighthouse is known as 'The Light of Asia' due to it having the strongest intensity among the rest of the lighthouses in Taiwan. Even up to today, the lighthouse is still functional and people will definitely stop by even when their eventual destination is Kenting National Park which is just a stone's throw away. read more »
