The Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is a popular attraction in Chiayi, with its lush greenery and beautiful sunsets. Spanning an area of 41,520 hectares and stretching across four townships, Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is famous in the country for not only its sunrises and afterglow sceneries but also its cherry blossoms and bamboo gorges. It has also been extensively featured in local TV dramas, often as the backdrop in the filming of romantic scenes. When you visit Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, you can also bring back their unique snacks such as their candy which is made of Jiaogao bamboo shoots and local organic white sugar cane. Persimmons and ai-yu jelly are also worth a try!
This place is also known as 阿里山國家森林遊樂區.

1. 祝山 Zhushan viewing platform - take a train from Alishan to Zhushan
[NT$100 for single trip, NT$150 for return trip]
2. 塔塔加 Tatajia - private vans offering tours

By Bus:
1. Take a train to Taipei Railway Station, continue by Kuo-kuang Bus to Alishan.
2. Take a train to Chiayi Railway Station, continue by Chiayi County Bus to Alishan.

Note: Most would take bus from Chiayi rail station to Alishan. As of Oct 2011, there is a direct bus service from Chiayi HSR station to Alishan. Only two buses a day, between 10 am to 1130am. Go to the visitors information counter at Chiayi HSR station for more info. Cost is less than NT$300 one way, takes about 2.5 hrs. The journey is about 2 hrs including the toilet breaks.

1.Nearest to Alishan Train Station.
2.From Alishan Train Station head south-west direction, upon arrving at a junction turn right.
3.You will reach Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. Walking journey is about 5 mins.
