One of Tokyo's oldest and most beautiful Japanese garden, Koishikawa Korakuen was built in the early Edo Period which was from 1600-1867. The name Korakuen is derived from a poem which encourages a ruler to enjoy his life upon giving his people the happiness that they deserve. As for Koishikawa, it is the district that the garden is located in. Similar to many Japanese gardens, Koishikawa Korakuen is famous for their landscape and picturesque scenery by using ponds, stones, flora and fauna as well as artificial hills to give a Chinese yet zen feel. Furthermore, there are walking trails which will lead the visitors around so as to allow them to view Koishikawa Korakuen in different perspectives and appreciate its beauty like no other. Albeit the presence of the urban Tokyo at the backdrop such as Tokyo Dome and other skyscrapers, Koishikawa Korakuen still remains as the best short getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life in Tokyo. Being one of the best gardens in Japan, Koishikawa Korakuen is breathtaking throughout the entire year and this is in particular so in the late November and early December of the season of autumn. You will be greeted by different shades of orange and red since many maple trees are actually planted around the garden's ponds. There will also be ginkgo trees towards the southeast end of the gardens which will turn to a brilliant golden yellow in the fall season. In the plum season from mid February to March and for the cherry blossom season from late March to early April, you will be greeted right at the entrance of Koishikawa Korakuen with the beautiful colours of the cherry blossom. This is definitely the most romantic place for you to spend with you and your loved ones, especially with your partner. Be awed at the different colours whenever you make a return to this romantic landscape of Koishikawa Korakuen.
This place is also known as 小石川後楽園.
