Being one of the most respected and significant monastery, the Fo Guang Shan Monastery was founded in 1967 by Venerable Master in a bid to promote humanistic buddhism. The aims and objectives of Fo Guang Shan Monastery is to propagate Buddhist teachings through cultural activities and practices, foster talents through education, benefit the society as a whole by organising charitable programs and lastly to purify the hearts of humanity through Buddhist teachings. In the late 70s to 80s, a huge golden statue of Amitabha Buddha and the Great Hero Hall were set up. In addition, the Fo Guang Shan Monastery is constructed at the top of the hill which overlooks the entire scenic area of Kaoshiung.

This place is also known as 佛光山.

1.Nearest to Jiuqutang Train Station.

2.From Jiuqutang Train Station, go to Dashu Junior High School Bus-Stop (大樹國中) by heading north on Jiutang Road Railway Lane (久堂路鐵路巷)

3.Turn right onto Jiutang Road (久堂路/高59鄉道)

4.Turn right onto Jiuqu Road (九曲路).

5.Take Bus 8010 towards 高雄客運旗山北站

6.Alight 23 stops later at 麻竹圍.

7.Head south on 興田路/台21線

8.Turn right onto Xingtian Road (興田路).

9.You will few several junctions, turn right, left, left and right at each respectively junction that comes along and you will find Fo Guang Shan Monastery.

10.You may want to take a cab as the whole journey mention above takes slightly more than an hour.
