Lantau Island is Hong Kong's largest island, known for its unspoilt countryside, lush green valleys and virgin hills. Visitors will find some of the region's best beaches here, as well as wilderness trails, monasteries and other attractions. Lantau Island has 47 villages, of which Mui Wo, Tai O and Tung Chung are being developed as new towns. More than 78.4 sqaure kilometers of it is also designated as Wild Countryside Park, and visitors can enjoy several outdoor activities here, including camping, hiking and fishing. Beautiful scenery is also abound here at Lantau Island, with the chain of mountains stretching from the west to the east sure to amaze. The highest peak in the mountain range is the Phoenix Mountain, the second highest peak in all of Hong Kong at a height of 935m. Other attractions in Lantau Island include the Giant Buddha, Hong Kong Disneyland, Nyong Ping, AsiaWorld-Expo, SkyCity, Ma Wan Park Noah's Ark, Tai O Fishing Village and Mui Wo.

Must do tips

1. Set off for a climb up Phoenix Mountain at night, and get to the summit before daybreak, in time to catch the beautiful sunrise. Dress comfortably, bring water, a flashlight, a camera, and your determination!

2. The Hong Kong Disneyland is also located on the island, providing a great day of fun for you and your family!

Transport tips

Take a ferry from Outlying Islands pier in Central to the west of Star Ferry terminal

Alternatively, visitors can walk to Tat Tung Road from Tung Chung Station (2 mins-110m) and take E31 Bus towards Yat Tung Estate Terminus(2 mins, 2 stops). Then, walk to Lantau Island (28 mins-1.7 km)
