Located near Krabi Town, Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Cave Temple) is one of the more interesting and unique temple complexes in southern Thailand, given that the monks live and worship within a maze of natural caves in an overgrown jungle valley. It derives its name from the rock outgrowth nearby that resembles a tiger's claw. Wat Tham Sua is also considered by Krabi's Buddhists to be one of the most sacred sites in the province, being a prominent center for mediation. Tourists come here to get the opportunity to see Buddha's footprint at the top of the mountain, a long climb of close to 1300 steps. The top also offers a panoramic view of the rubber tree plantations, mountains and beaches of the Krabi area. The view is even more beautiful during sunset. Nature lovers can find a microcosm of Krabi's former natural environment here at Wat Tham Sua, with the 'Wonderful Tree' being adorned in sacred cloth and possibly having the larges root base of any tree remaining in Thailand.
This place is also known as Tiger Cave Temple.
