With a land area of 121,695 ha including parts of Yamanashi, Shizuoka and Kanagawa prefectures, Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park is known for its beautiful landscapes such as Mt. Fuji and the surrounding volcanoes, coastline, and islands in the ocean. It is also a thriving tourist spot given the mild climate and availability of hot springs here. The popularity of the park is also increased by its easier accessibility by public transport. Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park comprises 4 main regions, namely the Mt. Fuji area, Hakone area, Izu Peninsula and Izu Islands. Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park is known most for having Mt. Fuji in the core of the park. With it's height of 3776m, it is the highest mountain in Japan, and also internationally known as a beautiful volcano with a conical shape. At Mt. Fuji, there are a number of lakes created by its volcanic activity and an extensive forest called Aokigahara. The Hakone area and Izu Peninsula are famous for their hot springs, while the Izu Islands is the perfect spot for marine sports.

This place is also known as 富士箱根伊豆国立公園.

Transport tips

1. Purchase the Hakone Free Pass at Odawara Station for a round trip from Tokyo to Hakone and unlimited usage of selected trains, cablecars, ropeways, boats and buses in Hakone area.

2. From Tokyo or Shingawa Station, board JR Tokaido Shinkansen to Odawara (about 30 minutes, 3,500 Yen for one-way). Only Kodama trains and some Hikari trains stop at Odawara Station.

OR

Take local or rapid trains on JR Tokaido Main Line (stopping at Tokyo, Shimbashi and Shinagawa Stations) or JR Shonan Shinjuku Line (stopping at Ikebukuro, Shinjuku and Shibuya Stations). Cost about 1,450 Yen for one-way.
