Constructed under Fort Canning, the Battle Box Museum consists of 22 rooms that are bomb-proof, equipped with the unique ability to recycle the air supply. It is originally the underground command centre of the British during the Second World War. As the place where the British forces surrendered Singapore to the Japanese, the Battle Box Museum is one of the most historical sites in Singapore. With its special audio effects and visual animations, visitors can relive the historical day of the surrender, 15 February 1942. Sounds of air raids and bomb blasts recreate the same scenario faced by inhabitants of the underground centre decades ago. A highlight of the Battle Box Museum would be the exhibit with 24 life-sized officers, which are actually wax figurines.
