Ita Thao Village (伊達邵) (also known formally as Te-hua village) is the last residence of the Thao people, located on the southeast shore of Sun Moon Lake. Visitors can get to experience the traditional culture of the Thao tribe here though the singing and dancing performances available here, as well as other cultural exhibitions. The origins of Ita Thao Village is linked to the deer chasing legend believed by the Thao Aborigines. In this legend, it is said that a group of Thao hunters, in their hunt of a large white deer, stumbled upon a landscape of lakes and mountains. Tons of fish gathered to feed on the deer that was stuck in the frozen lake, creating a plentiful supply of fish for the Thao people. As such, they decided to reside at Sun Moon Lake, creating the Ita Thao Village that is here today.
