Tianxiang/Tienhsiang is one of the landmarks found within Taroko National Park. It was originally named 'Tupido', and served as the site of an old Atayal village, being the residence of the Atayal aboriginal tribe. It was later named Tianxiang to commemorate Wen Tianxiang, the last prime minister of the Southern Song Dynasty in the 13th century. Tianxiang boasts of several spectacular geographical landscapes such as potholes, meanders, and different coloured rocks, making it a popular scenic area for those traveling to Hualien. Other attractions of Tianxiang include the Xiangde Temple and the Tianfeng Pagoda.
