Every year on 28 September, the large doors of Confucius Temple Martyr’s Shrine are opened to commemorate the respected Confucius. Celebrating Confucius’ birthday, this huge ceremony draws visitors from all over Taiwan to take part in the spectacle. The temple was built to imitate a Song dynasty square-shaped palace, displaying the impressive architecture from the inside out. Surrounding the temple are side corridors bursting with culture and activities. These include a small museum and ongoing calligraphy classes. Besides the everyday activities, festivities like the Mid-Autumn Festival are often celebrated at Confucius Temple Martyr’s Shrine. Although it is located near the city train station, it is advisable to hail a cab or to take a local bus from the train station to reach the temple.
This place is also known as 臺中市孔廟‧忠烈祠.
