The Murudeshwara Shiva Temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva, a major Hindu deity, often regarded as the most powerful god in Hinduism. The temple sits near the holy beach in Bhatkal Taluk. This place is also home to one of the tallest statues of Shiva in the world, measuring 123 feet in height, and taking about two years to build. The 'gopuram', a monumental tower at the entrance of the temple, is also one of the world's tallest standing at 20 stories high. The temple itself, together with all the intricate structures, indeed is an architectural wonder that is a must see for tourists during their stay in India.You can even visit the beach after that! Nearest Railway Station : Murudeshwara station lies on the Konkan Railway. Some trains from Mumbai and Mangalore stop here. To reach from Bangalore on has to take train to Bhatkal station.
Nearest Airport : Mangalore International Airport, 165 km away. Hubli and Panaji airports are other alternatives.
